2024年5月、フランスから初めて日本を訪れたアラン・ケルシアさん、西会津国際芸術村の滞在アーティストとして活動を開始しました。日本の神話や西会津町の民話、民俗、そして伝統和紙である出ヶ原紙にインスピレーションを受け、「熊」と「烏」をモチーフにした和紙の仮面を制作しました。この仮面は、フランス在住のコンテンポラリーダンサー、梶原暁子とのコラボレーション・パフォーマンスのために制作したものです。梶原さんは2024年6月28日に西会津国際芸術村を訪れ、わずか3日間でアランの作品の世界観に浸り、20年ぶりとなるコラボレーションパフォーマンスを披露しました。本展では、アラン・ケルシアが西会津国際芸術村滞在中に制作した作品と、7月1日のパフォーマンス映像を展示しています。
In May 2024, Alain Quersia made his first visit to Japan from France and continued his research and creation as an artist-in-residence at Nishiaizu International Art Village. Inspired by Japanese mythology, folklore, and traditions of Nishiaizu, including traditional Nishiaizu washi paper, Izugahara-Gami, he created washi masks themed on “bear” and “crow” for a performance by Akiko Kajihara, a contemporary dancer residing in France, who visited Nishiaizu International Art Village on June 28. Despite having only three days after arriving at Nishiaizu International Art Village on July 1, 2024, Akiko immersed herself in the world of Alain’s works and performed their first collaborative performance in 20 years.In this exhibition, we are showcasing the works created by Alain Quercia during his residency, as well as the video of the performance from July 1.
